In accordance with the policy adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact information a domain name is registered with must be valid and accurate all the time. What’s more, this information is publicly visible on WHOIS lookup websites and while this may be okay for organizations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since anybody can see their names and their personal street and email addresses, all the more so in an age when identity fraud isn’t that unusual. Because of this, domain registrars have introduced a service that hides the details of their customers without altering them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. If it is enabled, people will see the details of the registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they do a WHOIS lookup. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic Top-Level Domain extensions, but it’s still impossible to conceal your private details with some country-code ones.
Whois Privacy Protection in Cloud Hosting
You can quickly activate Whois Privacy Protection for any domain name that you’ve registered with our company if you’ve got a cloud hosting account with us. This can be achieved through the exact same Hepsia hosting Control Panel, via which you manage the web hosting account, so you will not have to log in and out of different user interfaces. In the exact same section where all your active domain names will be displayed, there will be an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon for each domain name whose extension supports this service. The status of each icon will quickly let you know if the Whois Privacy Protection service is enabled for a given domain or not and by clicking that icon you can add the service in case you haven’t done so upon registration. Additionally, you will also be able to renew or to deactivate the Whois Privacy Protection service for any domain name using that same icon and the change will take effect momentarily.
Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
Activating Whois Privacy Protection for any domain name is extremely easy in case you’ve got a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered with us, it will be listed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that comes with each and every semi-dedicated plan. If a specific generic or country-code domain is Whois Privacy Protection-eligible, you will notice a small icon next to that domain. To activate the service, you’ll need to click on it. In the same manner, you can also renew or deactivate the service. You can enable Whois Privacy Protection for a domain name during the account activation process as well, but since the service is optional, we’ll give you the opportunity to add it to any of your domains later if you change your mind and choose to hide your private information from the public eye after you’ve already created the account.
