There are various ways to direct a domain to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. If you own a domain name and you've created a website using some on-line service which provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you'll achieve with this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party company. You should know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop functioning, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and working email addresses with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often more configuration may be required with the other company.
CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting
You can easily set up CNAME records provided you have a cloud hosting plan with our company. We will provide you with an easy-to-use Control Panel where you could see all DNS records for the domains and subdomains that are hosted inside the account. Creating a CNAME record includes a number of easy steps - pick the domain/subdomain, select CNAME as the type, enter the hostname you are forwarding to, after that simply click the Save button. The procedure is as simple as that and the new record will be active almost instantly. That way, you'll have more control over your domain names and subdomains and over the content they open, you'll be able to create a private URL for company emails, plus much more. If you feel uncertain about how to create a new record or you have never done such a task, you will find a short video tutorial where you can see the whole process first-hand. If you choose to change or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it'll take you literally just a mouse click to make it happen.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Managing DNS records usually seems to be a challenging task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single semi-dedicated hosting plan that we provide, is extremely simple to use. If you'd like to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all you need to do will be to select the domain or subdomain you need, pick the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then type the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is very easy and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record will be 100 % active and within a couple of hours it will propagate around the globe. If you aren't sure what you have to do, we've prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial on how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both located within that same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for assistance anytime.
