Every device which is connected to the world wide web has a unique identifier named IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes PCs, web servers, smartphones, switches, etc. The pool of addresses, which was introduced originally, has been distributed, hence the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are progressively being replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name that opens a website comes with an IP record, which is the address of the server where it's hosted. When using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is made up of four sets of numbers from 1 to 255 divided using a dot, while with the IPv6 system it's called AAAA and it is comprised of eight groups of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this type of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An illustration of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format supports a considerably bigger amount of IPs compared with the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Cloud Hosting
If you want to set up a new AAAA record a domain or subdomain hosted within your cloud hosting account, it is not going to take you more than a few basic steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel is extremely intuitive to use and is going to enable you to create or edit every single record easily. Once you log in and navigate to the DNS Records section, in which you'll discover all existing records for your domain addresses and subdomains, you will just have to click on the "New" button, select AAAA from a small drop-down menu in the pop-up that'll show up, type or paste the needed IPv6 address and save the modification - it's as simple as that. The new record shall be 100% active within a maximum of one hour and the hostname that you have created it for shall start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If required, you'll also be able to edit the TTL (Time To Live) value, which shows the time in seconds which the new record will be working after you eventually modify it to something different or you simply remove it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to set up an AAAA record for a domain name you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it'll take you just a few clicks inside the Hepsia Control Panel to accomplish this. Even when you have never had a hosting account before, you'll not encounter any difficulties as you will use a very simple and user-friendly interface. All DNS records for your domain names are going to be listed in a section of the CP with the exact same name, so once you go there, you'll see all records which have been set up automatically or manually and you'll be able to set up a new one by simply clicking the corresponding button. A compact pop-up will appear, so with just several clicks you can pick the type of record you require and for which Internet domain or subdomain it's going to be created. Next, simply paste the IPv6 address in a text box, save the modification and 1 hour later the new AAAA record will be completely live. As an optional setting, you can pick the length of time this record is going to be operating after you edit it or delete it in the future. That's the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the default 3600 seconds when the other company needs it.
